WILPF supports demands for an emergency debate on the national security threat of ecosystem collapse

In January, the UK government released their ‘Global Biodiversity Loss, Ecosystem Collapse and National Security Report.’

After months of delay this 14-page report, drafted by the Joint Intelligence Committee, was shared outlining that both international biodiversity loss and ecosystem collapse could lead to geopolitical conceit, economic instability, further political polarisation, military escalation and pandemic risks.

This report revealed what civil-society and experts have long warned MPs: without significant action, the UK is heading into a national security crisis that undermines every aspect of our lives – food supply, health, poverty, conflict.

This is why we support calls for the Government to be transparent with the public and hold a debate on how they are preparing to mitigate these high-level risks to national security.

With collapse of key eco-systems potentially happening as early as 2030, no communities in the UK will be able to avoid the impacts.

The National Emergency Briefing

The National Emergency Briefing was commissioned to present the latest evidence, and build an irresistible call for the Government to stage a televised briefing, launch an emergency response, and lead global action.

Campaigners are connecting across the country, calling on MPs and officials to deliver meaningful, ambitious action that delivers for communities.

The People’s Emergency Briefing film

The ‘People’s Emergency Briefing’ film is a great opportunity with experts, citizens, scientists discussing how we face national security risks, threats to health, undermining our economy, flooded tows and loss of critical ecosystems.

You can offer to host a screening of the film.
