WILPF’s aims and principles

As a feminist peace movement and non-governmental organisation over a century old, we are outspoken, proud of our politics and political heritage. WILPF UK’s mission is to dismantle the root causes of violence, armed conflict and inequality to prevent war and build a global permanent peace, through the following aims and principles:

  • by offering an alternative to the militarised capitalist state
  • by engaging in grassroots activism with other like-minded women and organisations on issues including disarmament, anti-militarism, equality, gender and peace, climate justice and human rights
  • by raising awareness and enabling action for change in our local communities
  • by influencing UK legislation and policies, advocating with politicians and informing the media, as well as decision-makers
  • by having a strong presence and influence at the United Nations
  • by enabling our voices for peace to be heard by working in solidarity through networks of women and feminist activists to build a world of permanent peace founded on feminist foundations of freedom, justice, non-violence, human rights and equality for all where people, the planet, and all its other inhabitants coexist and flourish in harmony
  • by campaigning for a feminist approach to disarmament, foreign policy, peace-building and conflict resolution
  • by advocating for humanitarian responses and human rights initiatives
