Every year on May 15th we remember conscientious objectors, both past and present. Around the world today in Russia, Ukraine, Israel and many other countries people are imprisoned, persecuted for their beliefs or forced to flee for refusing to join the armed forces. We stand in solidarity with them, as well as celebrating the memory of those throughout history who have resisted conscription.
Events are happening nationwide and WILPF members will be attending commemorations in London at Tavistock Square 1-2pm and in Brighton at Friends Meeting House, Ship Street, 6:30pm.
For more information about conscientious objection, read these two booklets by Conscience Education For Peace: Conscientious objection to military service and Conscientious objection to military taxation. Summaries can be found here.
