Letter to the government: Ceasefire breakdown in Gaza

Earlier in March, the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas seemingly came to an end as Israel launched various air strikes on targets across Gaza. Israel has since cut off all food, medicine, fuel, electricity and other supplies to Gaza’s population of around two million people. We once again call on the government to halt the sale of arms to Israel. We encourage you to use this as a template to send to your own MP.

Dear Secretary of State,

UK government must stop Israel literally getting away with murder

Unbelievably, Israel has resumed the war on Gaza.

Extensive bombing, numbers of women and children dead, Palestinians forced to relocate, no food and medical supplies entering Gaza, water and electricity cut off (which also affects the desalination of sea water). This is genocide. These are starvation tactics. These are war crimes.

A UN report to the Human Rights Council outlines sexual and gender-based violence and attacks on maternity wards and healthcare facilities for women. The Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) says that this is misogyny. WILPF has over 100 years’ experience seeking out the root causes of war and conflict, working through our consultative status at the UN, and using negotiation and conciliation to bring an end to conflict.

Why is there no response from the “international community”? Israel is acting with impunity. We need real pressure to call this violence to account. It appears now that Netanyahu had no intention of keeping to the ceasefire agreement signed in January.

The UK government must speak out and take action. WILPF has previously appealed to you to stop ALL arms sales to Israel. Now we want this expanded to sanctions on trade with Israel, and for active lobbying by the UK government within the international arena to stop Israel literally getting away with murder.

We anticipate a reply outlining urgent action from HM government.

Yours in peace
