Our Executive Member, Helen Martins, has had another one of her letters published in the Morning Star on 1 March 2025, which articulates our stance on the notion of government increasing military spending.
I’ve been a supporter of the Labour Party and the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament for over six decades. But I could never have dreamt that our war-addicted government would have driven such a massive wedge between those two communities.
Labour’s aggressive and inhumane policies and posturing are in direct opposition to those who work tirelessly to strengthen and connect people who want to see the world turn away from violence, inequality and oppression and towards peace, equality and justice.
How has our government divorced itself so utterly from those ideals of promoting social, economic and ecological justice and placed the Labour Party at the opposite end of the ethical political spectrum?
Where is our government’s moral compass? Where is our ethical foreign policy? Where is their ethical stance on anything? Where is Labour’s conscience? Why are our politicians such appalling warmongers? Why are we peddling such appalling weapons everywhere – now, seemingly, at the expense of overseas aid?
What a colossal disaster. What a colossal waste of years spent leafleting and door-knocking. What a colossal betrayal of trust, at home and abroad.
