No wreaths for those in Palestine – by Helen Martins

WILPF Executive Committee member, Helen Martins, wrote the following short piece which was published in the Morning Star on 31 January 2025.

After spending last Saturday being kettled by the police in Whitehall at the rally for Gaza, I found myself lost for words seeing the photo in Saturday’s Morning Star of the Prime Minster visiting Auschwitz.

What complete and utter hypocrisy of Starmer to be visiting there just before Holocaust Memorial Day and the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, at the same time as aging and abetting the genocide in Palestine, and aiding and abetting wars around the world by being the best buddy of our arms manufacturers.

My relatives who were murdered in the camps and ghettos in Poland would be turning in their graves, except they don’t have graves to turn in.
