We are in a climate emergency compounded by a headlong pursuit of militarism, destructive economic growth, and the massive inequalities created by colonialism and capitalism. The introductory film that we will watch raises some of the issues we face and also shows what a lifestyle without endless growth could look like and could bring massive benefits too. In this webinar we will take a look at and discuss what the degrowth movement has to offer to our peace activism and how anti-militarism and our feminist analysis can help inform the work of those advocating for degrowth economies.
Our guest speaker, Nela Porobić Isaković, is a feminist from Bosnia and Herzegovina. She works with Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF), leading the feminist political economy work in the organisation. The focus of Nela’s work is researching and understanding the political economy of war and peace, from a feminist perspective. She focuses on social, political, and economic consequences of post-conflict interventions framed within a neoliberal understanding of peace. As part of her work Nela also explores different feminist anti-capitalist alternatives to current political economy, including degrowth.
