SUMMARY:Women in Black vigil: Trafalgar Square
DESCRIPTION:WILPF members regularly attend Women in Black vigils. \nThe London vigil is part of the Women in Black (WiB) world-wide network of women. We are committed to peace with justice and actively opposed to injustice\, war\, militarism and other forms of violence. We hold our vigil every week (see details above) in silence and wearing black. Each vigil has a specific theme\, which is reflected in the placards we carry and the leaflets we hand out. Each week we have a letter which we ask members of the public to sign\, which calls on the British government to take action on a specific issue. Currently our vigils focus on: opposition to British military engagements or threat of ‘interventions’ in other countries; opposing renewal of the Trident nuclear weapons system; calling for justice for Palestinians; and for steps to end violence in the DR Congo; and for ending the arms trade. Our vigils are for women only\, and present a women’s or gendered position on each issue. \nTime and place: Wednesday from 6pm to 7pm at the Edith Cavell statue. It is in St.Martin’s Place\, London WC2\, opposite the entrance to the National Portrait Gallery\, and not far from Trafalgar Square. \nEmail/Join mailing list: WiBinfo@gn.apc.org \nTwitter: @WiB_London \nFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/womeninblack.london/ \nVigil homepage: http://london.womeninblack.org/

SUMMARY:WILPF Global Call: Reflecting on our Present-(Re)Imagining our Future
DESCRIPTION:This Global Call will be a space for collective dialogue: to share\, reflect\, and think strategically about WILPF’s global priorities\, how we address current and emerging challenges\, and what needs to evolve in our approaches and commitments. \nThis conversation is particularly timely as we are entering the phase of reviewing WILPF’s International Programme (IP)—our strategic roadmap that outlines the goals and actions underpinning our feminist peace activism – ahead of the 2026 International Congress. More information on the participatory process to review the IP is coming soon. In the meantime\, this Global Call will be a great opportunity to kick off the process with insights from members as a starting point. \nThis Global Call is envisioned as a “big picture” moment—a chance to reflect on WILPF’s direction and priorities within a shifting global landscape. \nRegister here \nAhead of the call\, we invite you to reflect—either individually or together with your Section or fellow WILPFers—on the following questions that will shape our collective discussion: \n\nConsidering today’s context\, what does WILPF look like in 2035? What will we have achieved together? \n\n\nIf WILPF were to focus on three top global priorities for the next 3 years\, what should they be? \n\n\nIn a time of growing global pushback\, what does WILPF need to do differently to strengthen and organise effectively for feminist peace? \n\nUnable to attend? You can still contribute! Please reply to this email with your reflections (membership@wilpf.org) and we will add them to a shared document. There will be other opportunities to engage in the IP review process\, but we strongly encourage you to start these important conversations with your Section\, Group\, or fellow members now. These times call for bold\, collective\, and creative thinking… reach out and get involved!

SUMMARY:WILPF UK Webinar: Is degrowth a way forward for feminist peacebuilding and demilitarisation?
DESCRIPTION: We are in a climate emergency compounded by a headlong pursuit of militarism\, destructive economic growth\, and the massive inequalities created by colonialism and capitalism. The introductory film that we will watch raises some of the issues we face and also shows what a lifestyle without endless growth could look like and could bring massive benefits too. In this webinar we will take a look at and discuss what the degrowth movement has to offer to our peace activism and how anti-militarism and our feminist analysis can help inform the work of those advocating for degrowth economies. \nOur guest speaker\, Nela Porobić Isaković\, is a feminist from Bosnia and Herzegovina. She works with Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF)\, leading the feminist political economy work in the organisation. The focus of Nela’s work is researching and understanding the political economy of war and peace\, from a feminist perspective. She focuses on social\, political\, and economic consequences of post-conflict interventions framed within a neoliberal understanding of peace. As part of her work Nela also explores different feminist anti-capitalist alternatives to current political economy\, including degrowth.\n \nContact ukwilpf.info@gmail.com for zoom details.

SUMMARY:WILPF Brighton Branch Annual General Meeting
DESCRIPTION:We will be at the Friends Meeting House\, Ship Street\, Brighton setting up the room from 2pm with the meeting starting at 2.30pm. We are delighted that Anne is willing to continue being treasurer. Jenny is willing to continue as secretary\, with the help of the subgroup to prepare tasks for events and for us to share those tasks with those able to. \nAfter the formalities we shall have some refreshments and then watch and listen to a power- point presentation by long term member Baroness Joyce Gould\, who has spent many years in the House of Lords working at enhancing the lives of women. She travelled to various countries to gain insight into di\ering issues and collect evidence to back her recommendations to the Lords. Prior to that she had been the Chief Women’s Officer for the Labour Party with all the interesting work that entailed. It should be fascinating afternoon.

SUMMARY:WILPF UK Webinar: Feminist reflections on TPNW 3MSP
DESCRIPTION:The Third Meeting of States Parties (3MSP) to the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons convened from 3 to 7 March 2025 in New York City. In the face of rising nuclear tensions and increasing misogyny globally\, the Treaty has never been more important. WILPF UK was represented by two delegates who amplified both Scottish support for the elimination of nuclear weapons\, and recognition of their gendered harms. \n2025 marks the 80th year since the invention of nuclear weapons and their first use\, and the risks surrounding them have grown significantly. 2025 also marks the thirtieth anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women and adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (1995). In terms of the 1325 Women\, Peace & Security Agenda\, disarmament lags behind progress made in the other pillars\, and\, despite progress at 3MSP\, much more must be done to achieve gender equality in disarmament. Taking account of this urgent point in history\, let’s come together as WILPF UK members to understand more about the TPNW – and what we can do to change the UK’s nuclear weapons position. The time for transformative change is now. \nWe will hear from Áine Beattie\, Scottish WILPF member. \nPlease get in touch with us at ukwilpf.info@gmail.com for the zoom link.
