SUMMARY:Alternative Remembrance Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:The National Alternative Remembrance Ceremony takes place every year on Remembrance Sunday in Tavistock Square\, London. Following speeches\, those attending observe two minutes’ silence and white poppy wreaths are laid on the Conscientious Objectors’ Commemorative Stone\, in memory of all victims of war\, both civilian and military\, past and present. \nWith speakers including: \n– Sir Mark Rylance – Oscar-winning actor\, director\, playwright\, peace campaigner and PPU member. \n– Rachel Taylor from Every Casualty Counts\, an international charity dedicated to ensuring every life lost in armed conflict is recognised. \n– Hosted by PPU member Kate Smurthwaite – feminist activist\, comedian and star of the News at Katevideo series. \nShortly after the ceremony\, the Movement for the Abolition of War will hold their annual Remembrance Lecture nearby at Hamilton House at 3pm\, with Lord John Alderdice speaking on ‘Ending Wars’. We encourage people to head to the lecture after the ceremony is over. \nAt 5pm – also nearby – Every Casualty Counts have organised a live projection onto Friends House\, as part of their Memorial 2025 launch.
